Reviews
It was a very cozy space for family diners. There is a big space in front of the restaurant where kids can run around when they are bored to wait foods. The owner and staff were very friendly.
Their foods were very nice and similar quality to Izaka-ya in Japan.
Prices are a bit expensive. However I will visit there again. They are one of the best Japanese restaurants for families I can recommend.
Was compelled to write this after the absolute let down of a service. Reserved for 3 on a Friday night at 7:30pm, we arrived at 7:10pm and was situated outside along the river bank. Both view and atmosphere was nice.
We ordered a variety of dishes including Chicken Nanban, Salmon Sashimi, Pork Belly Okonomiyaki for starters, along with 2 other drinks. Sadly, one drink was forgotten (despite the waiter repeating the orders clearly, cannot grasp how it was not written down) and the Chicken Nanban was delivered only after 45 minutes since we ordered. To make matters worse, our Pork Belly Okonomiyaki turned out to be a Mixed Seafood Okonomiyaki, much to our displease and the server (mid-age lady) was coercing us to accept this. Our Salmon Sashimi was one of the last dishes to be serve (I still can't comprehend why sashimi is serve last instead of first). We ordered two additional dishes after, the fried calamari and beef skewers. The beef skewers never arrived (we waited approximately 30 minutes, and to our dismay, another table who came in later than us have theirs served). We had to cancel the order and leave.
The bill came and instead of waiting for us to do a quick summarization to ensure our orders are correct, the waitress walked off without a word and never came back. We had to walk towards the POS system to pay our bill before leaving bitterly.
For the price we paid, the food was average and the service was an absolute disappointment. We had to constantly request for updates on our dishes and observed as well that it was not due to lack of staff (the interior was lively, with stationary servers), just simply terrible manpower allocation. With the amount of errors and delay in our orders as well, we expected the restaurant to atleast provide a discount as a token of redress but sadly, there were none.
This will be our one and only dining experience, and will never return.
Cool cozy place to have a nice dinner with friends. We loved the food so much especially the starters, I think it’s some fried root (we had two servings!). Will come back again
Nanjya Monjya is a Japanese savory pancake restaurant that specializes in okonomiyaki and monjayaki. Okonomiyaki is a thick pancake made with a batter of flour, eggs, and water, and topped with a variety of ingredients such as cabbage, meat, seafood, and vegetables. Monjayaki is a similar dish, but the batter is thinner and the ingredients are not pre-cooked.
I recently had the opportunity to dine at Nanjya Monjya, and I was very impressed with the food and service. The restaurant has a fun and casual atmosphere, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Their customer service is top notch and their dinner time is always fully booked on weekends. You have to make reservations in advance.
Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience at Nanjya Monjya. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was fun and casual. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique and authentic Japanese dining experience.
The okonomiyaki was authentic and service was attentive. Price was very reasonable too. However, the place can be a little warm due to the hot plate. Overall, a great dining experience :)
This place has been around for a long time. Went for the okonomiyaki experience. Asked service crew to help with cooking but was told that they can’t cook at our table due to shortage of manpower. Our okonomiyaki took a long while to be served up, tasted good but could have more meat filling in it.
Serving size for the dishes were quite big and suitable for a group of maybe 4 to 6 to share.
Beer was ice cold, perfect.
We were recommended the deep fried Fugu, was interesting to eat because we never had Fugu prepared this way before.
Come here for novelty and to have some fun if you like cooking your own food.
Can get crowded so best to book before going.
Saw many Japanese dining so I guess it’s quite authentic.
Nanjya monjya offers both okonomiyaki (Osaka style) and monjyayaki (Tokyo style) which my dad & fiancé enjoyed. They have different ingredients that you can select from as well if you want complete seafood or complete meats.
The indoor seating has the grilled tables and the outdoor seating does not but depending on the night you wish to have, you can opt for an outdoor alfresco izakaya dining or indoor friendly grill of okonomiyaki/monjyayaki/teppanyaki.
The flavours of the food were amazing and authentic! Staff were friendly as well!
Was excited to revisit after 3 years and made a reservation for 6:15pm for 2 pax, but was disappointed to realise we were seated at the bar counter (only 4 seats at the bar). This made it very difficult to order multiple dishes as they took up a lot of space and was inconvenient to eat. We had initially intended to order a bottle of Shochu (they have a good selection), but figured we wouldn’t have any space left and settled with a highball.
In hindsight, it may be a good idea to call them up when making a reservation instead of doing it online and make sure you’re not unlucky to be seated at the bar (all other indoor and outdoor seating is great).
The Monjayaki was not sticky and not thick in consistency at all which was disappointing and unlike my previous visits. The base was not sticking and it felt like we were eating the batter and cabbage (ordered potato curry flavour).
Other cooked foods like Burdock karage and Chicken nanban arrived lukewarm-border line cold, which was odd since we were the first dinner guests to arrive and the food should’ve come out straight from the kitchen to table.
The Oden thankfully arrived hot (as it should) with plentiful amount of ingredients and comforting soup for a rainy day.
Ultimately our experience was largely affected by our seating (there were random staff items right next to us in our alright constrained space), the management should consider having the 4 bar seats for purely drinks and izakaya bits rather than full meal timings.
